Top 5 Strategies To Sell Healthcare Safety Products To Your Customers

Strategy #1:

Medical and dental facilities must comply with lots of federal regulations, including from the EPA, FDA, CDC and OSHA. Product selection must take into consideration compliance with the appropriate regulations, so be familiar with the most important regulations for the products you sell.

Strategy #2:

The OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard must be complied with by all medical facilities, and is the standard of best practices for all businesses regarding preventing the spread of serious bloodborne diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis. This Standard states that any bodily fluid spill (blood, vomit, urine, etc.) be cleaned up with an OSHA-compliant Spill Kit. Do your customers have spill kits in their facilities?

Strategy #3:

Medical grade gloves are required for medical applications, which include patient care and disinfection of contaminated areas. Vinyl gloves, which are widely used due to their low cost, are not considered medical grade. Know your medical grade glove options (latex and nitrile) so you can sell the proper gloves to your customers.

Strategy #4:

The EPA and the CDC require that medical facilities use EPA-registered hospital grade surface disinfectants for disinfection of contaminated areas. If a product does not have an EPA registration number listed on the bottle, it is not appropriate for medical use. Also, make sure the product is a disinfectant, not just a cleaner (disinfectants kill germs, cleaners remove dirt).

Strategy #5:

Using medical grade products prevents the risks of non-compliance (fines, lawsuits, etc.) and also follows best industry practice. Your customers are demonstrating true concern for their staff, patients, and customers when they use these products.
